RTK Positioning, Integrated Directly into the Helmet

High-precision satellite tracking outdoors: reliable positioning engineered for complex industrial operations, embedded directly into mandatory PPE.

Standard GNSS is not engineered for industrial operations. Tanks, pipelines, cranes, and heavy steel structures cause signal blockage and drift. The resulting 3–5 meter error margin cannot determine whether a worker is safely behind a handrail or standing inside an active machinery swing radius.

RTK solves this by calculating real-time differential corrections between the worker's device and a reference base station. While RTK historically required fragile, standalone surveying poles, we integrated the entire outdoor high-precision positioning capability straight into standard head protection.

What We Built

Zero Setup for the Field Worker

The positioning subsystem activates automatically when the helmet is powered on. No manual calibration, pairing, or configuration is required from the worker — high-precision outdoor tracking runs continuously in the background from the first minute on site.

Integrated Into PPE, Not a Separate Device

No extra instruments to issue, charge, carry, or write off after drops. Outdoor positioning is built directly into head protection, ensuring 100% compliance with zero workflow friction.

Seamless Indoor/Outdoor Handoff

Outdoors, the helmet relies on satellite tracking; indoors, the integrated UWB layer takes over automatically. The coordinate stream remains continuous as personnel move between open yards, pipe racks, and enclosed workshops.

Practical Unit Economics

Standalone survey-grade RTK units average $1,500+ per worker and provide outdoor-only tracking without comms, video, or analytical context. Embedding RTK capabilities into mandatory PPE makes site-wide, high-precision tracking economically viable.

Geofencing with Hard Precision

High accuracy turns virtual boundaries into actionable operational facts. The system reliably distinguishes between standing adjacent to a hazard and crossing into an active danger zone, replacing guesswork with verified records.

Dual-Mode Operation: GNSS & RTK

The helmet functions as a standard autonomous GNSS receiver anywhere under the open sky. When connected to a local base station or an NTRIP stream, the system automatically transitions from standard GNSS mode to high-precision RTK mode.
